We do like a little fat with pastrami but this was heart attack between rye. We pulled out globs and finally asked for a different sandwich. The corned beef was very good. Also tasteless potato pancakes.

Great restaurant/deli. If you are ordering anything other than eggs, a bagel or a deli sandwich, you are in the wrong place. Very hard to find this kind of deli quality outside of NYC. I had a bagel with lox. Superb bagel, all good. Service is usually good, but I've only been there twice. And those were a year apart, so I know they are consistent, lol. If you want to grab a good breakfast, lunch or brunch, look no further. And they will bring out some good pickles if you ask.

Good food reasonable prices, great service. I like the breakfast items as well as the deli sandwiches. The soups are very good as well. Overall good value for the money.

I was very satisfied with the pastrami sandwich with cole slaw and potato pancake that I ordered. Very attentive staff while I was there. Would definitely recommend to friends and family seeking a good deli experience.

The servers must all be drug addicts. Was forced to come to this horrid establishment on 2 different occasions and the service is absolute GARBAGE. I am young and was getting spoken to as if I was deaf ( like most of the clientele ). Very rush people who literally only check up on you when it is time to pay. Attitude bar set very high. Frankly avoid this atrocity. The food was on the same level as a waffle house. Keep in mind that waffle house is 1 level below the I hop. Very oily and way over salted. Seriously guys your clientele is 100 years old why has this not been an issue. Paired with horrendous service this place would get 0 stars but for the sake of i forming future people who want to try and get a nice breakfast in the area, the i hop 2 miles north on atlantic is like Gordon Ramsey's compared to this place . If you want to get rushed through an awful breakfast this place is for you. If you love receiving an attitude from your servers, this place is for you. If you love when people mess up your scrambled eggs and toast, this place is for you. What type of mentality does this place have to serve you your bagel an hour before your food comes. When people eat hamburgers with fries , do they want their fries cold? No. So i dont want my bagel an hour before the rest of my breakfast because I want to make a little sandwich out of my eggs. I get it, what is this guy talking about ? Making sandwiches, i dont give a hoot. Trust me. Go to poppies and you will know what i am talking about. Have the people that have left good reviews ever been to a real deli. Like in New York. People please spend the money on decent places like cafe luna rosa or even McDonald's 3 miles down the road. Im sure the powdered eggs come out 100x better than what poppies puts out

I order from them often, they have delicious tuna sandwiches. Quick, reliable delivery service.

This place is o.k. For those of you who grew up in So. Fla. and had the pleasure of going to "Wolfies" or "Wolfies Rascal House", this is neither. I had the matzo ball soup, it was loaded with spaghetti like noodles and chicken, and tasted ok. For lunch I ordered a hot pastrami and corned beef sandwich, and asked for melted Swiss, and had to ask for a side of cheese because they forgot to add cheese to the cold meats. The sandwich did have a generous portion of meats, no complaints on quantity or taste. It was pretty good! Overall, good service, ok food, a little pricy, ($36 for 2 sandwiches and a small soup), and I'll probably go back and try their breakfast. Most importantly, their fountain coke had perfect amount of carbonation/syrup ratio!

If you are looking for a great bagel place to eat in or take-out, go anywhere else! Last weekend my boyfriend and I decided we wanted to get some take-out for brunch of traditional nova, bagels and cream cheese. We arrived at Poppies and went to the counter where several people were running around all very confused. Finally a man came to us, who barely spoke english and was of Spanish decent and took our order. We got cream cheese, nova and 4 bagels. We also asked for a few pickles which naturally come with every order and were then charged for them by the pound (this would never happen anywhere else and had never happened to me). We then had to go to another register to pay- the women was extremely snarky and rude to us and had our food packed up on the counter behind her. After we paid and asked for her to hand us our food- she said oh someone else will get it for you, which we thought was ridiculous, rude and frankly insane. Finally after waiting an additional 5 minutes after we paid and asking two separate people- someone handed us our food. We got home, a bit stressed from our horrible experience, but very hungry and ready for our expensive breakfast. We were HORRIFIED. The nova that was hand sliced was thicker than we have ever seen nova cut before, slimy, chewy and pretty much inedible. The bagels were chewy and far below expectations. It was the worst meal I have ever eaten from a deli in South Florida. We will never be patronizing this establishment again and I urge you to do the same. If you want good nova and bagels go to Bagelworks, well worth the drive and the money, you will leave very happy.

In my personal opinion, Poppies has seen better days. I used to enjoy going to meet friends here but today's experience was less than decent. The grilled cheese wasn't cooked properly and the fries were like burnt even though I asked for them not to be.

Awful. Terrible. Salty. Three words that come to mind when thinking of Poppies. When we first seated, our very rude waitress came over and immediately started hurrying us up and being pushy with us. I'm guessing that because every other customer at this place was 75+, she thought she could just push around the younger crowd. Ah, me thinks not. When we told her that my glass had a lipstick stain on it, she snatched it right out of my hand while I was holding it. Now the food. I ordered the NEO omelette. I've had this many other times at other places and here it was overly salted. The coffee was weak and my biale looked like a cracker crisp. Biales are supposed to be a bit bigger, in my opinion. My friend had the Spanish omelette, which was just covered in tomato sauce. Yuck. The icing on top would be when the busboy was cleaning up next to us, his dish holder started leaking DIRTY WATER all over the floor and it got on me and my purse. When we complained, the manager offered me free dry cleaning. Although, I kept telling her that I had to leave for work, she kept insisting, because she knew I would have said no to that. She should have just offered to comp the bill. Seriously, that is gross and I've never seen that anywhere else. After an extremely disgruntled meal, we left and promise to never come back. And I'm still scrubbing my new Michael Kor's bag to get rid of the dirty water stain. Screw this place. No wonder every customer is so old, they probably don't care that they're eating garbage.

It has been 45 minutes still did not get our food the manager explained that there are a lot of people three tables turned over and a table that SAT 10 minutes after us are done eating. The manager explained that if you pay it looks like you leave. However, we waited 35 minutes, paid the bill, which has no effect on the fact that we still waited 35 min for nothing. Best part about it was when we found out from two waitresses that paid bill has absolutely nothing to do with our order the manager lied THE OWNER THEN SAID HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH GETTING FOOD! THEN RETRACTED THE STATEMENT WEHN I SAID MANAGER SAID IT. SHE KNOWS LESS THAN MANAGERS???!!! SHE BLAMED THE WAITRESS TOO. SHE THOUGHT I WAS W THE PEOPLE BEHIND ME COMPLAINING ABOUT SAME THING. SHE GOT CAUGHT. Table behind us told us they have been waiting for a bagel about half hour. Manager was not accomodating. Sounded like it was our fault. NEVER COME HERE.

The restaurant itself could use some updates. Lots of blue hairs in the place, but that's a good thing! Because alta cocker NY-ers wouldn't set foot in a deli unless it was good...and Poppies is pretty damn good. I love the ruggulagh. It's fantasic. They use real butter. We have no good Jewish delis in Chicago so I like coming down here to Poppies. Again, not a great scene, but pretty damn good food.

I love New York style deli and Poppies is one of the best I've ever been to. Fantastic platters of smoked fish and excellent bagels are my favorite of all possible breakfast foods. Yep, they do lunch here too and they do it well with corned beef and pastrami and knishes and all the usual Jewish deli favorites. Today's great meal was a solid portion (more than a quarter of a pound, I am sure) of thinly sliced nova salmon with tomatoes and onions and cucumbers and green peppers and olives, with a toasted "everything" bagel. Heavenly! You will want to arrive here early on the weekends, as the line can sometimes get to be as long as thirty or forty five minutes. As far as I know, they do not do reservations. On the way out, stop by the deli counter and pick up some rugaleh (small rolled pastries) or a few rollmop herrings in sour cream and onions.

Had a half a corned beef and matzoh ball, cb was tender and juicy, and soup very tasty. Seems clean and well kept. Not sure why place isn't more crowded, could be location.

Passed by here while visiting another store front in the shopping area. It looked crowded so I thought why not give it a chance.. We were four people and none of us were happy with our breakfast options. The scrambled eggs tasted artificial, My dad's potato fries were burned, I was amazed that the waiter even presented them to him. I usually give really good reviews but this place was awful. Everything was a la carte and quite pricey including over five dollars for a small bowl of fruit and $2.50 for coffee. Honestly I would rather get a grand slam at Denny's which gives you 5 choices, one price and .50 more for special items! Just skip this place completely. I also do not like to have to ask a waiter for more water, syrup when ordering pancakes, unfilled

Great Jewish deli! All the traditional items and great comfort food selection. Breakfasts are big! Homemade corned beef hash and home fries. All plates come with a mini muffin. The bagels are good. The coffee is okay but it could be better. Not a place if coffee is really important. The lunches are great. A fine list of deli meats and salads. The sandwiches are a perfect size....full but not over the top. The dinners are good for diner type food. It's nice to get a dish of coleslaw and a dill pickle as soon as you sit down! The bakery has a decent selection of cakes, cookies & pies. The real prize here is the matzoh ball soup! It is really great and one if those gotta have items. A great restaurant to have in the neighborhood. The perfect go to place if you want consistent deli.

Poppies is a great place to have breakfast. Its on the corner of Linton and Military in a Wendy's Plaza, and seems to stay busy. I love the Omelets here , they make a great Egg-white and Spinach and Feta Omelet. There is quite a generous serving Feta and cooked perfectly. The Omelets come with Home Fries which are Really The Best! They're not greasy at all and have bits of onion and pepper and made crispy. Also Omelets come with choice of Bagel, Bialy (soo good here must TRY!), or Toast, with homemade Cream Cheese. It also come on colorful Fiesta serving Wear and a mini Muffin on the side. If you order coffee you get a nice pot of coffee on your table. Ive had the High Protein Omelet, its Egg Whites filled with 6 oz fresh Grilled Chicken Breast, fresh Spinach and your choice of Cheese. It was very Healthy but Bland so I added Pepper liberally. The Lox, Eggs and Onion Omelet was salty, its what you can expect with Lox, and there was a generous portion of it . The Oatmeal here is really Good. It seems to be slow cooked and its Creamy and Tasty. It comes with Raisins and Brown Sugar on the Side. Depending on your waiter or time of the day the Service is good. The Cashier and the Hostess are nice as well. Poppies is my Go-To place when in Delray and in the mood for a really good Healthy Breakfast you'll def leave here Smiling.

After a friend telling me how great this place was, I went to Poppie's My friend and I ordered the Hot Pastrami sandwich. I got the potato pancake side, and my friend got the French fries. We were seated very quickly. The Hostess was pleasant. However, it took about 8 - 10 minutes for our server to great us. She was very rushed and almost seemed stressed. She was not rude just seemed to not have time to do the side chat thing that most servers do. The order came out in parts. The French fries came out about 2-3 minutes before the rest of the food. The pastrami was warm but not hot. The flavor was good though. My potato pancake was soggy. I was really disappointed with it. My friend whose a chef said they prepared the pancake hours ago and just heated it up. I don't know if this is true but it was not good. Overall, I will give this place another shot.

I recently came back to this place to give it another try, and I was impressed compared to my last visit. I had a big order to pick up for dinner for the family, and the service and the food was awesome. Huge difference from when I was last here. Thank you!!!

The chopped liver and the latkes were very good. Other than that everything was about average. I got an omelette which was good, but there wasn't much to it. They also bring you a fresh toasted bagel so you definitely won't leave this place hungry. The corned beef looked delicious, I would love to come back and try.

I eat most of my holiday meals at Poppies. The decor is bright, open and comfortable. The reservation system for holiday meals works well. I have always felt that the $23 (plus tax and mandatory 20% tip) was reasonable. This past Thanksgiving they removed the appetizer and glass of wine from the fixed menu but kept the price at $23. I may go back to the Boca Diner for value even though it isn't as nice. Waitresses can be nasty but remember the clientele they have to deal with. No offense, just reality.

I don't know what another reviewer was saying about this place being racist. We've been to racist places before. one particular one that comes in mind was in rural SC. This place was definitely the opposite of that other place. Maybe they just don't like him because he's hitting on the manager's daughter. We haven't bought anything from the deli but the food we ordered and the baked goods we bough were good. We could care less about wether or not the decor is updated. We didn't see anything wrong with it. The place seemed clean and well maintained. The service was good, prompt and very friendly. Dinner entres that come with desert was a pleasant surprise. Overall we were happy with our experience and will probably come back again.

Delis are the native cuisine of Delray Beach. Poppies has wonderful matzo ball soup. wonderful rare roast beef sandwich on rye and a perfect half dill pickle. Cole slaw OK. Potato pancake is marginal. Potato salad not to my taste. Borscht OK, but not as chunky as I like it (but at least I could get it...) The service isn't wonderful, but who cares? It's a DELI, not a damask tablecloth kind of place, so the service meets my expectations. Your mileage may vary.

Potato pancakes are great. Pastrami was amazing. Very busy! Great for Sunday brunch! People are popping in for desserts which look amazing. The portions are so big I don't know who would have room. I would return.

I ordered take-out stuffed cabbage with extra tomato sauce and the sauce was rancid. Not to mention they increased their price of this item. Watch what you order from this deli as some items might not be fresh!

On my last day of vacation we came here for breakfast. I had the corned beef and eggs and not only did they make my eggs just as I had ordered, the corned beef hash was homemade and the best I've ever had!! Not one single place I've eaten has had real hash like this. I will definitely be back when I visit again!

This place has gone way down hill from my childhood memories The Eats: Everything has been mediocre or bad lately. My thick cut french toast was too thick for them to cook apparently. Some breakfast specials were bland. Gross corned beef hash The Experience: Crowded. Older group. Service OK. Long waits on weekends and mornings. The Damage: Some of the early bird specials might be worth it if you know how to order

Seriously, why Poppies averages only three stars is a mystery to me. I think this place is great on three levels -- great food, great value and great food. Yeah, I like it that much. Took my mom on a Saturday morning as I craved chicken-fried steak for some inexplicable reason. The server said they have it on weekends, but it's not on the menu (and they call it country-fried steak). Score. What she brought me was an enormous plate with a breaded, fried cube steak the size of my hand smothered in sausage gravy, two eggs over easy, a side of home fries and a mini cranberry muffin for good measure. It also came with a choice of toasted bread, bagel or bialy. It was an obscene amount of food for one sitting, and I couldn't eat anything until the next morning, but if you're going to eat only one meal a day, this was as good a choice as any. My mom ordered the eggs Benedict (also served only on weekends) and was brought an equally inordinate amount of food to match my own lumberjack-friendly portion. The eggs Benedict were great. Thick slices of Canadian bacon with near perfect poached eggs topped with plenty of Hollandaise. That one's going on my list of dishes to try here. Poppies is a great place to go for breakfast or brunch if you're looking for excellent food and value. Next up: lunch -- because their sandwiches look ridiculously good.

The whole South Florida area is littered with New York style places, due to all the snow birds. It makes sense. What doesn't make sense is how this place manages to stick around, despite it being kind of crappy. First of all, they had the worst grits I've ever had in my life. Hands down. It was like a bowl of textured snot. And if you think that's bad, imagine how bad I had it when I tasted it. Blech. They also had this big display case which had about half a dozen shelves. The whole thing had different kinds of hot sauce in it. But here's the kicker, the sauces are sealed behind some plexiglass. Seriously. It's like it the were staring at me, taunting me. The Sriracha's laugh was an evil one. When I placed my order, the waitress seemed confused that I ordered eggs with matzoh brei, instead of just ordering "matzo brei" which seemed to be the way it was on the menu. Whatever. I got eggs with matzo brei, "hard" salami and spinach. The hard salami was not hard, the matzo brei was pre-cooked and had crappy texture. The spinach was good. And I liked that they did the eggs medium well, and that they were plentiful. But it wasn't nearly enough to save the meal.

Picked up breakfast today. You CAN'T BEAT $6 for 2 eggs, sausage or bacon, home fries & a bagel. It was all typical breakfast; not 5 stars but no negatives. (It was weird they have us French fries instead of home fries but maybe she heard me wrong on the phone.) I plan on going back to try more...

Classic NY Deli, food was great, place is bigger than it looks and the wait staff is really fast! Yes, it is filled with elderly people, welcome to Delray! This place is surrounded by retirement communities, so it comes with the territory. They have great daily meal deals on the board when you walk in, so take notice of that for ideas on what to have. The fried chicken I had recently was fork tender and obviously hand dredged and fried, I will most definitely be back!

Look folks its a Jewish Deli with seating, It is not the Ritz nor does it pretend to be , The food is average for a jewish Deli. If the waitresses are moody sometimes maybe they deserve to be , their dealing with some picky and contrary people . I may go back for Breakfast .

Service is bass ackward no matter when I come. It's sad really, because you would think of Delray Beach as the Jewish deli capital (next to NYC) but it is so not the case. The service has been absolutely horrible every time I've been in the 80's style eatery. Lots of mirrors and pastels, kind of like your grandmother's apartment in Boca circa 1982. Time for an update Pop. The matzoh ball soup had lots of dark meat chicken in it and tasted gamey and old. The nova was oily, and sliced too thick and grossed me out. My son's eggs were runny and undercooked and when i sent them back they came out burnt and overdone. They obviously did not cook two new eggs, but cooked up the old runny ones and thought it was fine. I wanted to send back again but I couldn't find my server. Until she dropped the check and by that time I was so turned off I couldn't wait to get out of there. The staff behind the counter talks loud and with very strong NY accents which was kind of amusing, if I wanted to hear every detail of this person's financial struggles which I didn't. I just wanted a decent bowl of soup and some authentic deli. Alas, I will continue my search.

First off I'm disgusted with yelp for deleting this comment. This is the second time I I'm writing this review. More racist then a KKK rally. I work right next door to poopies, South County Mental Health Center. Every time I have entered this deli I recieve looks of disdain and disgust. The manager a woman, will hardly look me in the eye and talks to me as if im less then a person. Many of my co workers feel the same, they all feel they have experienced racism there at some point. They wont even thank you for a purchase if your a minority. I've had enough bad experiences there that I would not return for any reason. Im very light skinned, so I rarely experience racism. What makes things worst is that, its a Jewish Deli! How can you show prejudice after what your culture has gone through. The only minority employees are the guys prepairing food. If your a minority avoid this place at all cost, they dont deserve our money. Plus the food is only ok, nothing to write home about. The one pro here is the managers daughter is drop dead georgeous.

To me, a deli is all about the steamed meat sandwiches. Succulent, tender corned beef, Spicy, sweet Pastrami, and fresh crispy crust rye bread. That's what it's all about... only not at Poppies. Deli's used to cure there own meats so there actually was a qualitative difference between establishments. Apparently not anymore. Like too many other delis in this area, Poppies gets its meat from National Deli, a second rate rip off of the formerly great Hebrew National. A corned beef, pastrami combo, was served barely warm on what tasted like day old rye. No zip, no taste, no nothing. The brisket was dry and had a grey color. Not much flavor here either. I will not be back.

I ordered a Turkey Reuben which was priced at $11.50 on-line. When I picked up my sandwich I was charged $14.70. I was very mad and feel like I have been riped off! Do not eat here if you want to get your moneys worth!

Went for lunch by myself today. Arrived approximately 12:30 and it was pretty busy. I was asked if I wanted counter or table and chose table. Seated right away. Service is what you'd expect in a real deli -- no nonesense, fast & efficient. Ordered a hot brisket sandwich ($9.95) and coffee ($2.25). Rye bread was extremely fresh and tatsy and cut just to the right thickness for a sandwich. Brisket was warm throughout and very tasty as well. Not dry and not fatty. Sandwich comes with choice of fries or potato pancake. I opted for the fries. Steak fries were cooked just right, which while no big deal is not always the case. Also comes with a dish of slaw (fresh & simple and not drowned in mayo) and a pickle. And if you are a coffee junkie like myself, you'll be very pleased that even for one person the coffee is served with a full carafe. No waiting for fill ups and always hot.

My number one breakfast choice and I have been coming here for years. I am neither Jewish, old or retired! They have THE BEST hands down corn beef hash any where around. I always order in other resturants and it never lives up to Poppies. Large menu selection which you come to expect at a Deli. Food is always above average. Service is hit or miss. Sometimes they are great and attentive, other times not so much. I do notice the wait staff is extra nice and pleasent to regulars which the call by name and always ask about their families. I was surprised to read the reveiw about the decor being pastel? Try faux finish in beige and cream tones (not that it matters as the place is always clean and does not have a "old place" feel). One thing I would like to see added is a Gluten Free menu, or a few choices.

When I travel to Delray Beach, I like to eat in the delis. I have eaten at Poppies several times over the years. I like it and have enjoyed everything that I have ordered. On my last visit this past weekend, I ordered a cheddar, spinach omelet which was cooked perfectly. I got the potato pancake as a side. I liked the thickness of the pancake and thought it tasted delicious. Those who complain about the latkes might have had a different style growing up and these don't compare. It is hard for a restaurant to compete with childhood memories. I also got a bialys instead of a bagel. My husband got the challah french toast which was sliced in thick slabs. He was very happy with his meal too. I would definitely go back.

The standard meals are very good at this popular deli in Delray Beach, Florida. You're sure to hear non-stop complaints all around you, but really nothing to complain about. The corned beef, pastrami, whitefish platters are all good. But go for the early bird special. Let me tell you. It includes tea and dessert. A nice deli to take your parents to but be careful, a regular here would ends up zaftig.

This place is a staple landmark right around the corner from my home. When it is time to slurge and get side tracked off my diet, I love the corned beef or pastrami or brisket sandwiches with a pickle and russian dressing on the side. The doc browns soda is icing on the cake.

Excellent food. Horrible service. I waited 15 minutes for a glass of water to be brought to my table. After still not receiving it and seeing no sign of the waitress, I walked around the restaurant until I found the waitress and asked again for the glass of water that I ordered. Upset that I was complaining, the waitress then proceeded to say, loudly, "Remind me never ever to serve English people again." I was stunned by how unprofessional her remark was. When she brought the water and food to the table, I told her that I would like to speak with a manager. She ignored my request and didn't say anything. When a manager stopped by later to ask how everything was, I proceeded to tell her what happened. She apologized but didn't comp the meal. I'll never go to this restaurant again especially when one of their waitresses was so rude, prejudiced and provided very poor service.

another day in FL, another tongue sandwich for me (see my review for TooJays in Coral Springs for my other tongue review. i'll eat it when I can find it!) i ordered the Bubeleh (tongue, fresh carved turkey, and pastrami). it was HEAVEN. not a speck of fat on the tongue and the pastrami was still piping hot. AND they serve you a potato pancake as a side instead of a bowl of drippy coleslaw. my husband had a tuna melt that was apparently so good, that we wouldnt let me have a bite! the desserts looked fab but i'm watching my waistline. maybe next time. i'm sure that i saw a black and white cookie with my name on it.

After reading reviews on Yelp and a review by a helpful Delray resident, we tried Poppies for breakfast. We are moving to Delray and will be about a 5 minute drive and always looking for a good breakfast place. Unfortunately, Poppies was a major disappointment for breakfast. Our waiter seemed to more interested in relaxing then serving. When he came he did not point out that the pitcher on the table was milk not cream and we asked for Spenda since only Sweet & Low was on the table. He brought the coffee which was awful, but never brought the Spenda or cream. My wife had to get up and steal a tray of cream. I ordered eggs over easy and turkey sausage. When the meal finally came the eggs were over easy bu the sausage was pork not turkey. My wife's french toasted tasted like bread that had not been soaked long enough to be french toast. The waiter finally brought the Spenda with the meal. All in All we are crossing Poppies off our list of local breakfast places. We are back to the 3G's.

Miserable crowd lousy service but decent food (breakfast) and cheap like borscht. Reminds me of that scene in the movie Cocoon. The old people there try and steal your youth and lust for life as they sit there silently staring at their spouse. I guess after 50 years of marriage you pretty much said everything you had to say. Avoid weekends at all costs. Go across the street to bagel Brothers to avoid weekend road blocks.

Lets here it for a place that would have a Deli man like Jimmy behind the counter-there are few original Deli men left and he is one of the last standing. With his droopy pants and serious deli demeanor, he helped me survive my mother's recent hospitalization at the nearby Delray Medical Center-where I refused to eat the cafeteria food. I would give Poppies 3 stars: the pastrami and turkey sandwiches quite tasty (I'm not talking Langers or Katz but still good) with very nice appetizing, but Jimmy earns it the 4th star. Thanks Jimmy and thanks Poppies!

This place is an oasis in a sea of horrible restaurants located around the west of I-95 Delray area. They offer excellent yet simple New York style deli fare. Generous servings. The other night my wife and I had a reuben, matzo soup and cheese cake. The food and service were great. The only slight draw back is they're a bit pricey but this is the case at any place in the general area. If I compare it to say Ben's Deli in Boca and I would take Poppi's any day over Ben's.

We came in around 3PM, and the place was pretty empty. It felt like your run-of-the-mill "Family Restaurant". My friend wanted to sit in the window section, but was refused because there weren't any servers working that section... understandable I guess. I ordered the tongue sandwich, my friend got a half brisket sandwich and half bowl matzo ball soup. Both came with pickle and cole slaw, mine came with a latke. My friend also had ordered a shake but found out that their machine was broken. My sandwich was OK, the pickle was clearly done in-house, which would be a plus if it weren't so excessively salty (and I normally like salty foods). The coleslaw was rather bland, but light. The latke was good. Their coffee was good. Overall though, the service wasn't so great. The greeter was letting her bad mood show, and the waitress was, although polite, not able to keep our drink orders straight.

they keep going downhill.WE ate there on 5/29/12. we ordered from there dinner menu. my wife had chicken livers that were rancid,bitter,sour.spoiled. waitress took it back & brought out a brisket that was dry and the sauce that they used tasted like a brown sauce from a can. so they took the meal off the bill. I had struffed cabagge the sauce was good but the meat in the cabbage was tasteless and they should have marainted it in the sweet and sour sauce. soups were eatable but compared to 3gs poppies just doesnt do it any more 3 g,s is far supieror in quality , quantity, service ,breads, soups, food, desserts etc. A terrible experience for us..not going to return again..

Not only does this place share the plural nickname of my grandfather (RIP) ... but it shares his personality. It's friendly, welcoming, and always serving up stellar food. OK, my grandfather never served up stellar food ... but he was known for taking people out to places that served stellar food. This place reminds you that this area of Florida is populated by New York transplants who know how to make awesome deli sammiches and other Jewish delicacies like latkes and matzoh ball soup.

I had first ordered the Pastrami, Corn Beef and chopped liver sandwich for about $11.99. It came out with a huge scoop of chop liver and only a few pieces of pastrami and corn beef. It was frankly insulting that they would have the nerve to serve it to me like this. I then exchanged it and ordered just the Pastrami sandwich and it was gross! So fatty that I could barely eat any of it. Must have had the fat of 4 hamburgers. You would surely have a heart attack if you ate this sandwich once a week. Also they only serve Breakfast and Sandwiches until 3:00 PM. This place is a major rip off and extremely bad for your health. Stay away.

We walked in and were hit with hot, humid air. Asked the waitress and she said, "that's just how it is." The food runner brought us our waters then nada... Place was pretty empty, 2 other tables had people and one was loudly complaining. We couldn't stand the heat so we left and went to the Italian place next door. I'd give less stars but I'd feel bad if it was just a new waitress and a bad A/C unit.

Lunch today, we were visiting my cousin who lives locally near here. We live in Ft Lauderdale, limited Jewish Deli's, so it's a 'treat' to have descent Pastrami sandwich...food was ok, enjoyed the sandwich, piled high(?) not really it only looks that way looking at the center of the sandwich....it's pilled high but only in the middle, the edges are just bread....and at $12 you should have more pastrami. Coleslaw is very good, as was the potato pancake....but 2 sandwiches and 2 Iced coffee's with tip $36.00

Horrible. Will never go back. Food took over 30 minutes- and they were not busy. Asked 3 times for pickles. Had to get up to get my own water. Fries were disgusting- recooked, oil soaked and dark brown. Manager at the register was superficial, rude and incredibly condescending. Completely unresponsive to any feedback whatsoever. Would rather skip a meal then go back here. tl;dr- DINE ELSEWHERE.

You might think my review as a little harsh but I was rather dissatisfied with my order of cheese blintz. I know what cheese blintz should be and shouldn't and these were the shouldn't variety. They came out hot but for $10 for three undersized blintz it is quite overpriced. Apart from that, the sweetness. Ugh. They have so much sugar in the cheese that you think you must be eating something entirely different than a traditional cheese blintz. Lastly the cheese is just a gooey mess.

I went to Poppies today for the second time in 7 years. I was underwhelmed the first time but it was a group lunch so I went along and can now give you the lunch scoop. We were a group of seven and it was busy so we were given a table in a nook of the restaurant that seemed to be saved for busier times. Our server was pleasant and quick with the menus and orders. I ordered a small bowl of Matzoh ball soup and a half roast beef sandwich on rye. The soup was under-salted but the chicken and veggies were cooked well and not hard or mush. The sandwich was fine but was a bit lackluster in appearance. Truthfully, the best part of my meal was the potato salad as it was fresh, tasty, and had a bit of zing to it. I ordered a cheese danish to go and had it tonight. It was dry and stale. Not a terrible place for lunch but it will probably be another 7 years before I go back.

It was a late morning, and we had no breakfast food in the house. We decided to search for something to eat nearby. We came across Poppies and noticed that it was a deli. Ahh, a large menu of breakfast food (also lunch and dinner options). I ended up just getting scrambled eggs with potatoes and a bagel. After the eggs and potatoes, I couldn't eat the bagel. My boyfriend happily enjoyed that. He had challah french toast. The food turned out good. Overall, the staff was friendly and there was no wait time to get a table (and it had a good amount of people in there). The service was friendly and the food was served quickly. Also, I saw there are plenty of vegetarian options on their menu. I'd definitely come back check this place out for lunch sometime.

Awful. Terrible.

On my last day of vacation we came here for breakfast. I had the corned beef and eggs and not only did they make my eggs just as I had ordered, the corned beef hash was homemade and the best I've ever had!! Not one single place I've eaten has had real hash like this. I will definitely be back when I visit again!

another day in FL, another tongue sandwich for me (see my review for TooJays in Coral Springs for my other tongue review. i'll eat it when I can find it!) i ordered the Bubeleh (tongue, fresh carved turkey, and pastrami). it was HEAVEN. not a speck of fat on the tongue and the pastrami was still piping hot.

Stay away.

The chopped liver and the latkes were very good. Other than that everything was about average. I got an omelette which was good, but there wasn't much to it.

Awful. Terrible.

Had a half a corned beef and matzoh ball, cb was tender and juicy, and soup very tasty. Seems clean and well kept. Not sure why place isn't more crowded, could be location.

This place is a staple landmark right around the corner from my home. When it is time to slurge and get side tracked off my diet, I love the corned beef or pastrami or brisket sandwiches with a pickle and russian dressing on the side. The doc browns soda is icing on the cake.

another day in FL, another tongue sandwich for me (see my review for TooJays in Coral Springs for my other tongue review. i'll eat it when I can find it!) i ordered the Bubeleh (tongue, fresh carved turkey, and pastrami). it was HEAVEN. not a speck of fat on the tongue and the pastrami was still piping hot.

Stay away.
